According to the teachings of Upanishad the mind consists of food. The food that we eat is transformed in three different ways:the grossest part of it becomes excrement, the middle part is transformed in to flesh, and the subtlest part goes to form the mind. When the food is pure, the mind becomes pure. When the mind becomes pure, memory becomes firm. And when a man is in possession of firm memory, all the bonds which tie him down to the world are loosened.

I cant remember when I precisely started becoming a vagetarian, because I did it bit by bit. First I avoid meat (taken from animal with 4 legs), then after sometime I refused poultry, after that no fish... I do get lots of benefit by being a vegetarian. I feel healthy, more kind, etc. I started to stop eating eggs last year, but I broke it and had been eating eggs since few months..This month, I determined to be free of eggs.. It goes well so far (just a few days). What do you think about eating egg?

Sri Om Jai Om...

Amitji

This discussion was initiated about the benefits of Vegetarian food. I think the main idea is to share how the vegetarian food helps one to smoothly progress on the spiritual path.

I consider the other purpose is simultaneously know who are the other Vegetarians on Guru.

Are we on the path or slightly deviating from the purpose of this valuable discussion?

May God Bless !!

Basically some of our religions are based upon some basic fundamentals or principals. Religions like Hinduism, Budhism and jainism are basedupon the principal of Ahimsa.  First and most important of the Basic needs of a man is food. The religion also starts practically from this aspect when we avoid non vegetarian food. Scientifically also it is proven by the scientists that our bodyparts like teeth and intestines are most suitable to digest vegetarian food.So why go for it. Veg. food is more healthy as compared to Nonveg. Vegetaians are more immune to the diseaces and there are no possibility to the diseaces spreaded by the animals and poultry, for example bird flue.

So to be healthy also it is good to be Veg.

As far as the nutrition is concerned we have vegetarian alternatives for the nutrients in the form of vegetables dairy, pulses, grains and fruits. And there is more varieties in Vegetarian food than Non veg.

Nonvegetarian cant avoid vegetables even in Non veg dishes. Vegetarians can avoid non veg in their food altogether.

Just have a thought and choose visely.

Spiritually also Veg. Food is good for our mind. Vegarians can keep calm at any situations, they are more tolerent.

Thanx to amit to give me chanceto express.

I have been vegetarian for about 6 months; actually just one day decided to do this again after many years.  I lived in Japan for 11 years and learned to cook Japanese, so am using those recipes I learned there.  I find it so interesting to cook like this and definitely feel a sense of peace.  I will add some Japanese recipes soon.

Namaste

I was totally veg for 3 years until I became dangerously anaemic during my first pregnancy. Then I started eating some fish. Having MS I don't want to endanger my immune system by totally cutting out fish, eggs and dairy products, so I consume a bit of that a day.  Now I'm very healthy, besides the MS that I have learned to live with pretty much in peace.

Good appetite!

OM Shanti OM

It is my thought that as one becomes more spiritually awake, becoming vegetarian is an after thought...It just seems to "fit" into one's life.  Glad I joined this group!

By the way, does anybody have any ideas on "Veggie burgers"?  I love them but don't know how to make them.

Namaste'

I cannot comment on the Effects of Non-vegetarianism on the body since i have never  consumed non-veg but i can bet on it that Vegetarian dishes are simpler to make and easy to digest.HAPPY VEGETARIANISM.........
