Because we can never be the owner of money.after your death money will go in someone else hands. This will reduce your Karmic debts too.
A few years back, my mother desired diksha from Swami Satyanandaji of Vrindavan. He chose Akshaya Tritiya day as that was Krishna’s favourite. Devotees were pouring in, roads were packed with cars and rickshaws, and the police were having a tough time. We braved our way through the crowds to the Banke Bihari temple. Sounds of ‘Radhe!’ were coming from everywhere. Reaching the temple was a marathon task and once inside we swayed with the crowd and got pushed right near Banke Bihari.
Why should people choose this particular day? This is the only day you can see Krishna’s lotus feet. It’s called Charan Darshan. Akshaya Tritiya or Akha Teej is when the sun and moon are equally radiant and bright. This day Banke Bihari is brought outside the main shrine so that his lotus feet are visible to all. He wears light, summer clothes and less jewellery than usual, for it is humid and he is anointed with sandalwood paste that has a cooling effect. Devotees throng temples to see the spectacular sandalwood shringar of their beloved Krishna. Kilos of chandan are prepared days in advance and applied decoratively over the deity, thus earning him the name Chandan Darshan. In the evening a dhoti is tied around his waist so that one can enjoy sarvang darshan – that is, see his whole body.
Go to Banke Bihari temple before 8.30 am to avoid crowds. That is when Krishna wakes up as he spends the entire night in raslila with gopis and so sleeps late. Here there is no mangala arati. All temples are decorated with fragrant flowers like jasmine. Fountains spray scented water on the visitors. The Shyamsundar deity was given to Shyamananda Prabhu personally by Srimati Radharani. On Akha Teej, decoration of Radha Shyamsundar is detailed and beautiful . The main stage is lavishly decorated with flowers. Crowds at Radha Shyamsundar are well managed.
Radha Damodar temple is famous for weddings of Radha and Krishna that take place almost every other day. On Akha Teej, there are flower decorations every which way you turn. The Shila, a piece of the Govardhan hill, has a footprint of Krishna, a calf's footprint, and mark of Krishna's flute and stick. Krishna stood on it in front of Sanatan Goswami, and played the flute. The rock melted and his prints are still seen.
Akshaya means never diminishing. Many things happened on this day: Draupadi was given Akshaya Patra (bowl) by Krishna which supplied unlimited food; Kubera, treasurer of gods, prayed to Lakshmi, goddess of wealth, to fill his treasury; Parashurama, the sixth incarnation of Vishnu, was born; Satya yuga ended and Treta yuga began; the Ganga descended from Heaven; Ved Vyasa and Ganesha began writing the epic Mahabharata; and Sudama, the poor friend of Krishna, came to Dwarka to ask for help. In return for a handful of beaten rice, Krishna gave immense wealth to Sudama. Gates of the Badrinarayana temple open on this day. Construction of chariots for the Jagannath rath yatra at Puri commences. Jains observe fast and break it with sugarcane juice as king-turned-monk Rishabhdeva was offered sugarcane juice after an year-long fast. So the belief is that worshipping Lakshmi-Kubera, buying gold and silver ornaments, investing money in shares and real estate, buying household things, ploughing land, writing new account books – will all bring prosperity.
Each second of Akshaya Tritiya is auspicious. This is the time to put in our best to get eternal benefits.
