God the Supreme

( Previous Section - Who Am I?" )

THE SUPREME

  • If I am a soul, a tiny (infinitesimal) spark of light, a non-physical being, is it possible that there is a Supreme Being, a source of power, energy and knowledge who would fulfill the role of Father/Mother?

  • When I start to search for the identity of the Supreme Being, it becomes extremely confusing.  I get different answers, different images, conflicting scriptures. I even reach the stage when I wonder if there is a God or if it is all the creation of human minds. But - surely if there is a Supreme being, it should be possible to have one complete introduction to him, one complete set of facts.

  • if I am to have the awareness of myself as a soul, and stemming from that, a close relationship with God, the Supreme Soul, then I must know:

                - Who He is.

                - What His form is.

                - Where He is.

                - What His attributes are.

                - What His acts are.

                - Where I stand in relationship to Him.

FORM

  • Having recognised the soul to be a tiny point of light, I can now see others as my brothers/sister. Every soul is the same size and form.  It is certainly possible then that the father of all souls would have the same form.  The Supreme Being is also, a spark of light, the infinitesimal pinpoint which contains within itself a mind, intellect and sanskaras - a personality with whom I can have a relationship.

  • Personality - God has been remembered as the one who performed actions which are truly beneficial. He has been remembered as the Ocean of Knowledge - beyond limitation - complete wisdom and awareness.  The Supreme has been remembered as One who gives unlimited love, peace and mercy.

QUALITIES

  • As we turn our thoughts to the Supreme in meditation, the soul is flooded with the experience of these qualities - love, purity, peace, bliss, power - and actually absorbs these qualities within itself . . .  the self is transformed, recreated.

  • If there is to be union with the Supreme, it is only possible when there is the awareness of God as a pinpoint.  It is not possible for the mind to concentrate on a huge expanse - infinity.  So the soul, seeking union with the Supreme, sees Him as a pinpoint, total concentration can be achieved and union experienced. A relationship is then built up.

NAME OF THE SUPREME

  • There are as many names as there are tongues for the Supreme, and each one is accurate in that each one conveys a special meaning or quality. But the one name that carries a multitude of meanings is the sanskrit name “Shiva” - which means the Benefactor, the point and the seed (of the tree - the knowledge of the whole “human tree” is contained in the Seed and the Seed is the Creator of the Tree).  In this name is contained the theoretical knowledge of the Supreme Soul.  In meditation another name is used - “Baba” (father or daddy) which conveys the idea of my close relationship with my father.  And so God the Supreme, the Incorporeal, is Shiva Baba.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE SOUL AND THE SUPREME SOUL

  • Similar in form, size and in the function of mind, intellect and sanskaras but there are some differences between the soul and the Supreme Soul.

                - Supreme Soul is the One free from the cycle of birth
                   and death - constantly incorporeal

                - Souls, take on a human body and are governed by the
laws of action and reaction (karma).

                - The Supreme is totally fulfilled, eternally complete
                     and forever constant.

                - The Supreme is also constant in abode.

HUMAN SOULS

SUPREME SOUL

  • They take human bodies and experience birth, life and death.
  • Never comes into the cycle of birth and death
  • They are subject to change and the dualities of pleasure and pain, growth and decay, happiness and sorrow.
  • Changeless. The One beyond dualities.
  • They remember and forget their nature.
  • God is the ocean of knowledge.
  • They are seekers of peace and happiness.
  • God is the One being sought. He is the bestower of peace and happiness.
  • They lose their power and become weak.
  • God is the constant and external source of all spiritual power.
  • They are brothers.
  • God is the Father and Mother.
  • They come into, greed, lust and attachment.
  • God is bondageless, the liberator of all, including the sages, saints, holy teachers and gurus.
  • They become worshipers.
  • God is ever worship-worthy.
  • They have desires based on bodily needs, name and fame.
  • God is completely desireless and selfless.
  • They have physical bodies.
  • God's form is incorporeal.
  • They cannot liberate humanity.
  • God is the uplifter of all.
  • They become impure through body-consciousness.
  • God is the purifier.
  • They are caught up by the present have distorted knowledge of the past and no accurate knowledge of the future.
  • God is the knower of the three aspects of time.
  • They are takers.
  • God is the giver, He takes nothing.

THE ADDRESS OF THE SUPREME
(The Three Worlds)

To form a relationship with God, I must know precisely where He is so I can turn my mind to Him.

    • CORPOREAL WORLD - The physical world in which we live.

    • SUBTLE REGION - Beyond the world of matter there is a region of light sometimes referred to as the astral plane.

    • INCORPOREAL WORLD - Beyond the Subtle Region is a place of constant, unchangeable light, complete stability, silence and peace - Nirvana (land beyond sound or land of release or of liberation).  This is my home, the world from which all souls come and the lands where all souls ultimately go.  It is also the home of the Supreme Father, Shiva Baba.

The Raj Yogi can turn his mind away from this corporeal world to that incorporeal world, where the Father resides, and where he can experience complete peace.

OMNIPRESENCE

It is a very widely held concept in both East and West that the Supreme pervades the entire universe.  An examination of this would suggest that, if the Supreme did pervade the entire universe, then the qualities of the Supreme Soul would also pervade everything in it - correct?  If I am pervaded by the supreme, could ignorance or peacelessness exist?

Let us consider the Supreme to be in one location, and from that location qualities emanate, so that wherever I am, I only have to tune my thoughts to that source and I am able to pick up those vibrations and experience a relationship.

If my mind is tuned to the physical world, I have not been able to pick up the transmissions, even though God has been sending them.

Thank you Anil,

The idea is that the individual is capable of establishing a relationship with Father God.  As previously discussed - more, this requires that the individual understand his/her non-physical form and nature. This understanding requires some instruction, knowledge and effort - but not in excess.  With some practice, it is possible for the individual to establish a direct connection with God.  This is done through the practice of yoga or connection - raja yoga.  More on that shortly.

What would limit one from establishing a holy communion.  Are only a few capable of communing with the Supreme Father? God is far more accessible - far closer - than we initially understand.  With divine knowledge, understanding and effort we begin to establish a direct connection.
